Planting the Seed for Better Health
Spring is in Full Swing!
With the weather being beautiful most of us are outside planting new flowers, mowing the lawn, taking walks, swinging the gold club, playing with the dog, taking our kids to the park… So many activities arise when the weather warms up around spring time. This also means our bodies may not be ready for all this movement…
How to Help Your Body for Spring Activities
Breathe, Stretch, Recover
Flexibility is key to a healthier life. Stretching will only improve, not hurt, your muscles for greater flexibility. A more flexible body will help with all of your spring activities and you’ll have a greater range of motion in your joints which makes it easier to move.
Here are some tips:
- When you are stretching, you want to preform a stretch for 10-30 seconds and repeat up to 3 times.
- Do not force a movement. It is okay if you can’t touch your toes the first time, stretching every day will help you get there.
- Listen to your body. Do not cause yourself any pain while stretching.
- Breathe. Every stretch should be preformed with deep and calm inhales and exhales. This allows your body to open up.
- Stretching before and after activity is beneficial.
- You can also speak with our doctor for any questions and/or concern you have.
If you feel muscle aches and pains after working in the garden, there are ways to alleviate discomfort. Apply a cold pack or a heat pack (your preference) on the area of pain but most importantly, consider making an appointment with our doctor of chiropractic because these every day spring activities should not be causing you discomfort. Call our office to set up an appointment to discuss what treatment plans are the best for your needs.
